Trends in federal civil healthcare fraud enforcement

Randy Harwell has been a civil Assistant United States Attorney in the Middle District of Florida since 2004, and currently serves as Chief of the Civil Division for the district.  In that capacity, he manages the work of twenty one civil AUSAs in four offices located all over central Florida.  As the district’s designated civil health care fraud attorney, he also personally handles civil white collar fraud cases in the nation’s busiest whistleblower docket.  Prior to joining the United States Attorney’s Office, Mr. Harwell served for fourteen years as a trial attorney for the United States Department of Justice, Civil Division, where he specialized in chapter 11 bankruptcy and failed bank litigation.

Jason Mehta became a civil AUSA in the United States Attorney’s Office Jacksonville Division in October, 2012.  Prior to that, he was an attorney at the U. S. Department of State and an associate at two large Washington, DC law firms.  He served as judicial law clerk to the Honorable Gerald Tjoflat.  Jason is a graduate of Harvard Law School and University of California-Berkeley.
