The HCBA awarded the 2018 Liberty Bell Award to Bob Martinez, the former governor of Florida and mayor of Tampa, as part of its annual Law Day luncheon activities at the Hilton Tampa Downtown on May 9.
The HCBA has presented the Liberty Bell Award annually since 1964, which recognizes outstanding non-lawyer citizens whose community service strengthens the effectiveness of the American legal system.
In announcing the award, Chief Judge Ronald Ficarrotta of the 13th Judicial Circuit noted Gov. Martinez's strong support of the judiciary during his term as governor, as well as his dedication to the Tampa community over the years.
Martinez currently serves as a Senior Policy Advisor at the Holland & Knight law firm.
In addition to presenting the Liberty Bell Award, the HCBA honored some local law enforcement officers for their service to the community during the past year, and some local students for their achievements in conjunction with Law Day.
